I caught the travel bug when I was 13 years old on a three week school exchange in Chile. I was hosted by a wonderful family with a daughter my age and a son a couple of years older. I went to school with them and my fellow students from home. And on the weekends we toured different parts of the country. It was an amazing experience and it opened my eyes to an amazing world. I got on the plane home and couldn’t wait to see more of it.
The experience I had in Chile has opened my eyes up to traveling in a different way. Not just seeing the sights that need to be seen, but actually embracing the culture, eating the local food, shopping in local areas and trying to pick up some of the local language. I don’t want to be a typical tourist… though that is often inevitable.
